BROWNWOOD, Texas - A ground breaking took place Friday for the new $5.2 million Hendrick Surgery Center in Brownwood.

Several community leaders and hospital officials attended the event including Mayor Stephen Haynes and Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ray Tipton.

The new facility is expected to open in March of 2017, and construction is set to begin next week. The surgery center is a joint venture between Hendrick Health System and Brownwood.

According to a press release, it will offer same-day surgeries for specialties including pain management and plastic surgery.

"They're top quality physicians, and those are the kinds of people we like to partner with," Hendrick Health System CEO Tim Lancaster said. "We came to Brownwood and started working with the physicians."

Lancaster added, "We found some mutual goals that we would be interested in, and it eventually came to happen."

The new Brownwood facility will include three operating rooms and 13 recovery rooms.
