BROWNWOOD, Texas - A Brown County man who fled from a traffic stop and threw items from a motorcycle through the streets of Brownwood in February was indicted on multiple charges Tuesday.

According to court records, 24-year-old Cody Hartwig was indicted for possession of controlled substance in a drug free zone with intent to deliver, evading arrest, and two counts of tampering with evidence.

On February 22, Brown County deputies attempted to pull over Hartwig for expired registration at the corner of Austin Avenue and Lillie Kimble Street, but he accelerated away instead, according to an arrest report.

Hartwig kept fleeing and then started throwing items from the motorcycle, authorities said. The report states he threw an eyeglass case near Cecil Holman Park. He was then seen throwing brass knuckles to the ground on Market Street.

The report says Hartwig nearly lost control of the motorcycle on Trapp Street, and the deputy was able to subdue him to the ground and arrest him.

The eyeglass case was recovered and found to contain about 6.5 grams of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the report. The brass knuckles were also recovered.

Hartwig told police he did not stop because he didn't have a driver's license or permission to use the motorcycle.
