Brownwood man, 49, killed in crash near New Mexico border

COCRAN COUNTY, Texas - A 49-year-old Brownwood man died Tuesday night in a crash in Cochran County near the New Mexico border.

Bobby Lee Walters was pronounced dead at the scene after his pickup collided into a semi-truck hauling a trailer near the town of Plains, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said Walters was driving north on State Highway 214 when his Dodge pickup drifted into the southbound lane. The semi's driver "took evasive action but was unable to avoid striking" Walters' pickup.

The truck's driver was later identified as Jose Guadalupe Vasquez Hernandez, 59, of Hart. He was transported to a hospital and is listed in stable condition with incapacitating injuries, according to DPS.

His passenger is in stable condition with non-incapacitating injuries, according to DPS.

The crash remains under investigation.
