Brownwood Middle School students find success at regional math competition
ABILENE, Texas —
Eight students from Brownwood Middle School took part in the Regional MathCounts Contest that took place at Abilene Christian University this past Saturday.
Half of the students that participated were a quartet of seventh graders that were involved in the team competition. The group of seventh graders, consisting of Andrew Boren, Emma Carroll, Aishwarya Nigalye and Peyton Wells, placed second in the team competition.
Four eighth graders from Brownwood Middle School were a part of the event's individual competition. The four eighth graders from Brownwood Middle School who entered the individual competition were Weston Burns, Leila Gautier, Sonora Petty and Gillian Sapp.
The individual competition's overall winner ended up being Leila Gautier, who received the contest's highest solo score and ended up qualifying for the state MathCounts competition in Austin.
As a corporate sponsor of MathCounts, 3M sent two of their engineers from their Brownwood facility, Vaughn Costa and Sana Rafie, to visit Brownwood Middle School and help the students participating in the competition get ready for the event.
