Burglary suspect arrested by Early police admitted to crime
EARLY, Texas - Early police arrested a man they say stole a car and a gun from a car lot.
Derin Thomas Fortner, 28, was arrested Tuesday after he confessed to Early police officers that he stole a car from Big J Car Lot, according police chief David Mercer.
Mercer said that a detective and an officer followed leads to Fortner's Brownwood home. While there, he admitted to the burglary and "took officers to the location of the car and where he had hid the keys so no one would take it," according to Mercer.
Police also found the handgun that Fortner allegedly took from the business after searching inside his residence.
Fortner remained in jail on a burglary of a building charge with a bond set at $10,000, according to the Brown County Jail's website.
