Central Texas Veterans Monument will open on Veterans Day
BROWN COUNTY, Texas - A project recognizing the 259 Brown County veterans who have died since World War I is on track to open on Veterans Day.
Dr. Steve Kelly volunteered to help lead the construction of the Central Texas Veterans Memorial, which includes 11 granite tablets and the WWI, World War II, and Vietnam War statues already in Brownwood.
On Monday, Kelly said more than $10,000 has been raised, but that fundraising has been a challenge.
"We hope to conclude fundraising next year," Kelly said. "We wanted to conclude this year, but raising money is very difficult. But we're looking forward to having it completed."
The memorial will honor the enlisted servicemen in the 36 th Infantry that were stationed in Camp Bowie.
"For everything that's good in this country, thank a veteran," he said.
