Family: Deceased Brown County woman was found badly beaten
LAKE BROWNWOOD, Texas - The family of a Lake Brownwood woman found dead Sunday evening said her body was badly beaten.
The Brown County Sheriff's Office is investigating several leads into the death of Rhonda "Chantey" Blankinship.
"She was beat up," said Tonie Thaden, Blankinship's great-aunt. "Nobody's got to see her."
Her body was found at an abandoned house along CR 424 in Brown County, about five miles from her home.
She lived with her grandfather on Tamarack Mountain. Several community members expressed their sorrow for the loss and said she was like a granddaughter to everyone.
"She's not the kind of person that would actually get in a vehicle with someone or anything like that, she's very cautious," said Tom Furr, who drove Blankinship to church on several occasions. "Everybody out here, if they traveled these streets, have seen her."
The funeral will take place Friday at 2 p.m. at the North Lake Community Church, where she attended service every Wednesday and Sunday.
Brown County Chief Deputy Vance Hill said the department would not comment on the investigation.
