An Austin father faces injury to a child charges for allegedly burning his daughter's hand over a stove.

According to the arrest affidavit, Agustin Martinez claims he was disciplining the 6-year-old girl back in January at their North Austin home for stealing from a friend.

The 43-year-old told officers that the girl has a problem with stealing. To teach her a lesson he put her hand over the stove top's open flame, court documents said.

The young girl wound up in the hospital, where medical staff deemed her injuries abuse. Agustin claims he didn't mean to burn her and that his hand slipped, according to the affidavit.
