Small claims court judge rules in favor of disabled Brown County veteran
BROWNWOOD, Texas —
A disabled veteran may not have to pay fees she owes a Brownwood hospital after a small claims court judge ruled in her favor Thursday.
Gayla McLaughlin was being sued by Brownwood Regional Medical Center for not paying her nearly $2,000 hospital bill.
McLaughin told KTXS in December she underwent emergency surgery in 2015 to remove her appendix. But, she was under the impression her VA benefits would have covered the visit.
She said the Justice of the Peace who oversaw the small claims court ruled in her favor.
The hospital has the right to appeal the decision.
