Four young San Angelo children are fighting to survive after a head-on crash that claimed the lives of their parents and baby sister.

Killed in last Saturday's accident were Jim Alan Clemens, 31, his wife Karisa Brianne Clemens, 29, and their 2-month-old daughter Juliana.

According to the preliminary crash report, Jim Clemens was heading south on Highway 87 in the family's Chevrolet Suburban. About a half-mile south of Sterling City, the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe lost control, veered into oncoming traffic and hit the Suburban.

"It's really devastating," Karisa's aunt, Teresa Burrell, said.

The other four kids, Angela, 8, Zachary, 5, Wyatt, 4, and Nicholas, 2, were taken to Shannon Medical Center.

"Little Zachary broke his back, but could feel his toes and that's awesome," Burrell said. "But when they took him in for surgery his lungs, they really struggled."

Burrell said Nicholas is out of the hospital. His three siblings are being treated in Fort Worth.

The child whose condition is of the most concern to Burrell is Angela, who is in a coma.

"She's really the one we're most worried about because we just don't know the extent of the brain damage," Burrell said. "She hasn't been able to wake up."

Wyatt suffered multiple strokes and is paralyzed on his left side.

The driver of the of the Tahoe, Monique Deion Austin, 23, of Midland, also suffered serious injuries. Her 1-year-old son is expected to be okay.

"As we try to help these guys come to reality, when they are conscious, when they are able to understand that their parents are gone. That their little sister is gone, you know, it's a challenge," Burrell said.

The family is seeking help to pay for the medical bills and the funerals. You can donate by clicking here.

Another fund was set up on YouCaring.com.

The funerals will be April 21 in San Angelo.
