Body of swimmer who went missing in South Padre Island found
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (AP) - Authorities have recovered the body of a teenager who had gone missing after swimming on South Padre Island in South Texas.
The Brownsville Herald reports the body of 17-year-old Mario Alberto Silva was found Friday morning after it had washed ashore.
Silva went missing shortly after noon on Thursday after he was boogie-boarding near the beach on the island. His body was found about 200 yards north of where he disappeared.
Silverio Cisneros, assistant chief with the Cameron County Parks Rangers, says Silva didn't know how to swim but had taken his boogie board farther into the water.
Authorities believe the teenager fell off the boogie board and was unable to get back on it.
Silva was by himself in the water.
