Boy, 2, killed near I-35 had been in babysitter's care
TEMPLE, Texas (AP) - Police say a 2-year-old boy struck and killed by a vehicle near an Interstate 35 frontage road in Central Texas had been in a babysitter's care while his parents were out.
Temple police say officers responding early Sunday to the call about a fatal accident were told someone was calling to report a missing child. An officer went to the home where the call originated, obtained a photo of the child and sent a copy to officers at the accident scene about two blocks away.
They confirmed it was the child reported missing.
Police said Monday the baby sitter last saw the boy about 1 a.m. The missing person call came in shortly after 2 a.m.
Names of everyone involved haven't been released. Police say the investigation is continuing.

Officer Shawana Neely says the boy was dead at the scene. The incident happened in an area that's part of a business district along I-35.
