Crash in Cameron County leads to recovery of missing 13-year-old girl

An 18-year-old La Feria man faces several felony charges after troopers say they found a missing child with him during a car crash investigation last week, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

At about 8:50 a.m. Friday, state troopers investigating a one-vehicle crash on I-69 E, north of Farm-to-Market Road 508, in Cameron County discovered that the passenger, a 13-year-old girl from La Feria, was a missing child.

After an investigation, troopers arrested the driver, identified as 18-year-old Ivan Villarreal of La Feria.

Villarreal has been charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony; indecency with a child, a second-degree felony; and abandoning or endangering a child, a second-degree felony.

Villarreal was booked into the Cameron County jail, according to the news release.
