San Angelo Police Department investigating death of man found on side of Concho River

The San Angelo Police Department is conducting a death investigation after a man's body was discovered to be floating in the Concho River Sunday morning.

San Angelo police received a call around 8:30 a.m. Sunday from someone who saw a body floating in the Concho River in the vicinity of the 600 block of Veterans Memorial Drive.

When officers arrived, they found a deceased male on the bank of the Concho River. His body was still partially submerged in the water.

Justice of the Peace Fred Buck pronounced him dead and ordered an autopsy to be performed. At this time, the cause of death is still being determined.

The man has been identified as 26-year-old Phillip A. Lara of San Angelo.

The investigation into Lara's death remains active and more details about the circumstances of his death will be released once they become available.
