University officer presumed drowned in Texas flooded creek
DALLAS (AP) - Authorities searching for the body of an off-duty university police officer presume he drowned when he was swept away in a flooded creek in Dallas.
The Dallas Morning News reports that the Southern Methodist University officer was working a security job at a construction site near Turtle Creek when a thunderstorm hit the area. The unidentified officer called a dispatcher to say his car was being overtaken by water, but he lost contact with authorities around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Dallas Fire-Rescue officials say they are treating the search as a recovery effort rather than a rescue mission. About 40 people and a K-9 team are participating in the search.
The search was halted for around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Crews will continue the search at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
