Wildcat softball continues to grow on the mound
ABILENE, Texas —
Nine games in, ACU softball has learned a lot about its team.
"We've got a great batting average right now, and the fact we're leading against everybody we've played as far as runs scored and on base percentage and slugging percentage is good," said head coach Bobby Reeves. "We went down 9-0 to Monmouth, but then came back to win 10-9, so that says a lot about the fight this team has."
The tournament season is well underway, as the conference's preseason second-ranked team continues to be road warriors -- tackling tough opponents in its early season schedule. For ACU, that offers both a challenge, and a chance to really get better before conference season. It's also a chance to get those not as experienced up to speed. That's been a focal point of coach Reeves' team so far in 2018.
"Pitching, " he said. "Hannah [Null] is doing what Hannah does and she's really good. She's having to throw a lot of games right now and she's having to close for the other two young ones right now, but once those two young pitchers kind of continue to grow each week like they have been, then by the time conference comes around we'll be in good shape."
ACU heads to Baylor beginning Friday for the Baylor invitational. There, the Wildcats will face Jackson State, Incarnate Word, and Baylor over the weekend. The first home game for ACU is Tuesday, March 6th against Bowling Green.
