Lake Travis High School alum Baker Mayfield is heading to the Cleveland Browns and was the number one overall NFL draft pick Thursday.

Local fans gathered at a watch party in Lakeway less than two miles from Lake Travis high school.

The owner of McArthur’s has two of Mayfield’s helmets on display from both Lake Travis and the University of Oklahoma. Allan McArthur said everyone in the area are fans of Mayfield.

The crowd erupted in celebration when he was selected as the number one overall pick.

“We’ve been a fan of Baker's for eight years now,” said Ryan Stuetelberg.

Throughout the crowd, people were wearing NFL jerseys from various teams, but no matter what jersey they had on, everyone was excited to see Mayfield go first in the draft.

“It wasn’t expected. I thought he was going top five. He said that the other day when he was in town that he just wanted to go in the top five and yeah that’s where I wanted him to go,” Stuetelberg said.

Both Stuetelberg and his wife went to Lake Travis High School and followed Mayfield’s career at the University of Oklahoma. Their daughter Peyton even sported a number 6 jersey to watch the draft.

He said now his family will have a new team to cheer for. “Now it’s the Browns. And going to the Browns is going to be hopefully awesome with all of the picks they have this year,” Stuetelberg said.

Cleveland plays the Texans in Houston on December 2.
