XFL wants to know if San Antonio is interested in hosting pro-football team
SAN ANTONIO —
Watch out, San Antonio! Football could once again come to the Alamo City in 2020.
Officials with the Alamodome confirmed on Thursday that the venue has received a request for a proposal from the XFL.
For those who don't remember, the XFL first launched in 2001 with eight teams. It lasted only one season on NBC.
But in January of this year, XFL creator Vince McMahon announced the league is poised for a comeback in 2020.
We've learned the league is reaching out to cities all over the country to gauge interest.
Many will recall San Antonio's other ventures into professional football: the SA Gunslingers, a professional USFL team that played at Alamo Stadium in 1984 and 1985, the San Antonio Talons in the Arena Football League (2012-2014) and the San Antonio Texans in the Canadian Football League (1995). Both teams played in the Alamodome.
We'll let you know what happens.
