Chris Wilner is the KTXS Sports Director and anchors the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. sports casts.
Born and raised in Indiana, Chris is excited to begin his career in Abilene.
Previously, Chris attended Syracuse University where his sports television passion took flight. While at SU, Chris had opportunities to cover some of the top Division I athletic programs in the NCAA, including Syracuse men’s basketball, lacrosse, and football. His most memorable experiences are when he traveled to the NCAA men’s basketball tournament to cover the Orange, along with the Big East tournament for lacrosse.
Other broadcast experiences were gained outside the classroom. Chris interned at the CBS affiliate in Indianapolis, where he had the chance to cover the Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, in addition to his favorite event and passion, the Indianapolis 500. He had the opportunity to interview many great names in sports like Andrew Luck and Jeff Gordon, and learn from some of the top sportscasters. He also traveled to select NASCAR races with ESPN and worked as a runner, getting valuable experience in a live professional sports production.
Growing up, Chris played many organized sports, but his true love was found in auto racing. At the age of 11, Chris began in quarter midgets and moved on to dirt micro sprint cars semi-professionally. Although his racing career is over, Chris tries to race when he can, but mostly looks for the nearest track to check out. His dream job would be to cover motorsports events on television, with the goal being able to call the Indianapolis 500.
When not covering sports in the Big Country, you can find Chris being active, whether it’s at the gym, a quick pickup game on the court, or a round of golf. He is a devoted Pacers, Colts, and Blackhawks fan, and loves country music as well. Chris is also very big on spending time with family, and enjoys being around his friends.
