Mari Cockerell kicks off our weekdays on KTXS This Morning. She says it’s easily her favorite place to be in the newsroom; except for the wake-up call.
“I get up at about 3 a.m. That’s definitely the number one question I’m asked! But I love meeting everyone who gets up with us in the mornings. It’s an honor to be a part of people’s lives in this way, and that’s what has made this the most rewarding and fun job.”
Mari first came to KTXS in 2003 from KREX-TV in Grand Junction, Colorado. She co-anchored evening newscasts in Abilene before anchoring evening newscasts at KTSM-TV in El Paso and reporting at KVUE-TV in Austin. By 2009 Mari and her husband, Chris, were ready to make their way back home to Big Country family and friends.
Mari met Chris, an Abilene native, while first working at KTXS. Together they have a son who is four, and little girl born in January 2016.
Mari serves on the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors, and enjoys supporting the Day Nursery of Abilene after serving on its board. Mari is a 2010 graduate of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Abilene, and she and her family are members of The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest.
Mari is a 2002 graduate of Vanderbilt University where she majored in U.S. history and political science. She also spent time interning at CNN’s Atlanta headquarters, and WTVF-TV in Nashville.
