Families in 66 counties across Texas to get SNAP replacement funds for spoiled food

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that families in 66 counties who depend on the federal food benefits program known as SNAP will automatically get replacement benefits to pay for food lost to spoilage during last week’s power outages.

Counties in the Big Country and Concho Valley that qualify for the automatic replacement benefits include:

  • Coke
  • Comanche
  • Eastland,
  • Haskell 
  • Knox
  • McCulloch
  • Mitchell
  • Stephens
  • Sterling
  • Throckmorton

Families in the above counties do not need to take any action or call 211. The replacement funds will be automatically applied to their Lone Star Cards by March 4th.

Families that do not live in those counties can request replacement benefits, but only have until March 31 to report SNAP food loss. A request can be made by calling 211 and pressing option 2.
