Places of worship are deciding right now if you still need to wear a mask to their services once the Governor's mandate is lifted this week.
From the beginning of the pandemic the Muslim Children's Education and Civic Center has been very careful about the COVID-19 virus and they assure us come Wednesday not much is going to change.
“No question, people's lives are more important,” Sakib Shaikh with the MCECC said. "No mask no mosque nothing is changing," Shaikh said.
For nearly a year the MCECC has followed strict COVID-19 protocols.
It includes temperature checks, bringing your own prayer rug and staying socially distant.
He said the Mosque’s leadership will not follow Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to lift the mask mandate because of safety.
They also recently experienced a terrible loss in their Chairman who recently died from COVID-19 complications.
"Take this very seriously,” Shaikh said.
Community Bible Church is projecting the same message.
This weekend Pastor Ed Newton told the congregation they will continue to follow COVID-19 protocols through Easter before re-evaluating the state of the pandemic.
The Archdiocese of San Antonio also announced it's also sticking with masks.
If you attend any of the Catholic churches in San Antonio whenever you walk through the doors you can expect to still be asked to wear a mask and follow social distancing and that is for an indefinite period of time.
"The Archbishop has decided what's in the best interest of the church is that we're not changing anything right now," Father Pat O’Brien said.
Fr. O’Brien said they see no reason to change anything as the guidelines allow them to keep their schools and mass ongoing.
“We're at pretty good compliance with that but as long as we're six feet apart I'm not going to get all unwrapped about that. The most important part is going to be we keep our distance, we wear our masks especially when we're close to people," Fr. O’Brien said.
