Yusaku Maezawa, the CEO of fashion company Zozo, wants to take eight people with him on Elon Musk's SpaceX flight to the moon in 2023.

It will be the first civilian lunar trip.

Maezawa was the first person to book a spot on the flight. In a video released Tuesday on YouTube, he said 10 to 12 people will be onboard total, but he's looking to bring eight random passengers from all around the world.

The experience will take three days to get to the moon and three days to return, according to Maezawa.

"I will pay for the entire journey. I have bought all the seats, so it will be a private ride," he said. "Ten to 12 of us will be on board, and I hope that together we can make it a fun trip."

Maezawa said there are two key criteria for anyone looking to apply for the trip.

First, he said that "whatever activity you are into, by going to space, I hope that you can push its envelope, to help other people." He also said that he is looking for people who "could do something that's even better, even bigger" than what they are doing on Earth.

The second criterion is being willing and able to support other crew members who share similar aspirations.

According to the dearMoon website, pre-registration closes March 14, with initial screenings by March 21. The final interview and medical checkup is expected to occur by May of this year.
