ABILENE, Texas - Abilene police are investigating a crash between a vehicle and a bicycle that left one person dead late Saturday in north Abilene.

Emergency scanner traffic indicated that someone was in the street following the accident around 10 p.m. in the 1200 block of North Judge Ely Boulevard.

Abilene police confirmed that a 65-year-old Abilene man was riding his bicycle north on Judge Ely when he was struck by a pickup truck also traveling north.

The man was thrown to the street. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and took him to Hendrick Medical Center, but he later died from his injuries.

Sgt. Lynn Beard said the bicycle didn't have any rear reflectors.

The deceased person has not been identified at this time, pending notification of family. Police said they don't suspect alcohol to be a factor, but the driver of the pickup consented to be tested for alcohol.

Police said the driver of the pickup was not cited at the scene. The department will continue investigating the crash.
