18-year-old woman shot multiple times at traffic light in east Abilene
ABILENE, Texas - An 18-year-old woman was likely targeted when she was shot multiple times at a traffic light late Monday in east Abilene, Police Chief Stan Standridge said Tuesday.
The victim was ultimately taken to Hendrick Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery for her injuries.
The victim was shot at least three times, twice in the back and once in the right leg. While investigating, police found more bullet holes in the victim's vehicle.
Police came across the victim when they were dispatched to Hendrick Medical Center just before 10 a.m. Monday.
Once officers arrived at the hospital, they spoke with the 18-year-old female victim and determined a shooting had occurred at the intersection of East Hwy 80 and Judge Ely Boulevard.
According to police, a car pulled up to the victim's car with multiple subjects inside before they began to fire multiple times.
After the shooting, police say the victim drove to a residence in north Abilene, where she was then taken to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery for her injuries.
Standridge said that it still "very early" in the investigation.
"Early investigation indicates she was likely targeted," said Standridge.
No arrests have been made in relation to this shooting.
