Bird resigns from Bangs ISD as head football coach, AD

As the high school football season winds down, the Bangs Dragons will begin its search for a new head coach and Athletic Director this holiday season, after Jim Bird announced his resignation Friday morning in a statement released by the Bangs ISD Facebook page.BANGS, Texas -

Bird was hired in 2015 and has been at the helm of the Dragons for three seasons with a combined record of 2-27. It’s been a difficult four years for the Dragons, who have only won six games since 2014.

Bird said in his statement he and his wife both have resigned from the school district, and will be accepting positions at a district closer to home, near Bangs although that specific location was not revealed.

The statement provided by Bangs ISD read as follows:

“It is with both excitement and sadness that my wife Sarah Bird, and I announce our resignations from Bangs ISD effective January 3rd, 2017. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Bangs ISD, the administration, the parents, but most of all, the kids that we worked with everyday for the opportunity to be a Dragon. These things are never easy, because people are involved and relationships are built, and those will never be forgotten. After 3 years at Bangs, and 6 years total being away from family and friends of where we consider home, we have accepted employment opportunities at another district just right down the road and only a few miles away. Our two young sons will be able to see their great grandparents, grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles on a daily basis going forward, which we believe to be a huge blessing. We thank again all those who have supported and befriended us, welcomed us into your homes, and community. We will be at school to say our goodbyes to staff and students on January 2nd. Sincerely, Jim and Sarah Bird.”

Their resignations are effective January 3rd.
