Brownwood police arrest man who held two people hostage& stabbed another

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Brownwood police arrested a 36-year-old man Saturday for holding his girlfriend and her son hostage for nearly two days and stabbing her father with a knife.

Jason Coffey of Brownwood is in jail for aggravated assault against family with a weapon, two counts of aggravated kidnappings with a deadly weapon, and a warrant out of Ector County for assault family violence with previous convictions, according to police.

A police report stated three officers arrived to an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Davis Lane at around 7 p.m. Saturday in response to a welfare check.

When attempts to get someone to answer the door failed, the officers left the scene and began walking to the parking lot. But, according to the report, police returned to the apartment after they heard yelling. That's when they found two men bleeding from stab wounds.

Investigators discovered Coffey stabbed his girlfriend's father multiple times in the stomach and head.

Coffey suffered injuries to his hand, which were consistent with holding a knife during the assault, according to police.

The police report also stated Coffey held his 37-year-old girlfriend and her 16-year-old son in their apartment against their will.

Coffey remains in jail on bonds totaling $240,000, according to Brown County Jail records.
