Icy roads slowed firefighters responding to a Sunday morning fire that destroyed a home in Wylie.ABILENE, Texas -

The Abilene Fire Department was called about 7:30 a.m. to a fire in the 7000 block of Ruby Esther Circle.

When they arrived, smoke and flames were shooting out of the roof. Part of the roof later collapsed.

Donna Novil and four of her five sons, Dion, Josh, Trevor and Brian, were asleep when the fire started. A friend told KTXS that a neighbor saw the fire and woke them up. They all made it out safely.

Dion -- who played football at Wylie and is now a defensive lineman for the University of North Texas -- is home on Christmas break.

The fifth son, Isaiah, slept at a friend’s home.

Investigators say the cause was an “improperly placed and unattended incense burner.”

The home is a total loss.

Two funds have been set up on-line to help the family.

In addition to money, the family needs “furniture, clothing, toiletries, food and water, along with any other items to help prop them back up,” said Jason Watts, a friend of the family.
