KTXS Forecast: Continuing to slowly warm into the end of the week.

KTXS Logo with Alerting you to weather danger

Good morning and TGIF! As you’re getting up we are mostly cloudy once again with lows hovering around freezing in the low/ mid-30s and winds are out of the southwest at 5-10 mph. Fog/ mist is expected for several locations this morning so visibility for the morning commute could decrease. ABILENE, Texas -

Friday afternoon will see slight clearing but mainly keep partly cloudy skies with highs ranging from the low 40s to low 50s and winds will be out of the southwest at 5-10 mph. Friday night we will remain partly cloudy with lows cooling to the mid/ upper 30s.

Into the weekend, on Saturday, highs are going to range from the mid-40s to low 50s as a weak cold front pushes through the region. Winds will turn to the north at 5-10 mph. Saturday night lows will cool to the upper 20s/ low 30s with a 10 percent chance of precipitation. This means there could be some icing on roadways going into the overnight hours and Sunday morning.

On Sunday, which is New Year’s Eve, a stronger cold front will move into the Big Country. This one is going to keep high temperatures in the low/ mid-30s and build strong winds out of the northeast at 15-25 mph with higher wind gusts expected. There will be a 10-20 percent chance of wintry mix/ light snow flurries into the afternoon and overnight hours. Lows overnight will drop well below freezing to the low/ mid-teens with cloudy skies. Icing on roadways is likely to occur, which is a big concern for party goers into the overnight hours.

We will be following the winter weather potential closely and will update you as needed. However, you should plan accordingly and keep up with changing weather conditions.

By Monday, which is New Year’s Day, ice on the roadways in the morning is very likely. Into the afternoon the region will keep mostly cloudy skies and have highs below freezing in the upper 20s/ low 30s with north winds at 10-20 mph. Monday night lows will be back in the teens to low 20s for most of the region.

Tuesday and Wednesday currently look like they will be partly cloudy with highs warming slightly to the mid-30s/ low 40s and winds will remain out of the north at 5-10 mph. Lows through this period will be in the mid-20s.

Have a great day! –MV-
