KTXS Forecast: Much colder, expect rain

ABILENE, Texas - We are much colder today than yesterday thanks to a cold front rolling through overnight. Light rain is moving through early this morning. Some northern areas near Aspermont and Haskell could see a light wintry mix this morning but after a warmer day yesterday, anything icy will melt on the ground. 

Skies will stay mostly cloudy after rain moves through by lunch time. Highs will only get to the low to mid-40s. Another shot at rain/sleet mix will be into the evening time, mainly for areas north of Interstate 20. Rain will move out this evening and skies will begin to clear overnight. lows will be in the upper 20s to low 30s. 

Saturday, expect mostly sunny skies with temperatures warming to the upper 50s. Winds will turn back to the southwest at 5 to 10 mph. Lows will drop to and slightly below freezing. 

Early morning on Sunday, a cold front will move through the area. Winds will pick up to 15 mph with stronger wind gusts up to 25. Highs will be in the mid to upper 40s. Expect some cloud cover but for the most part, skies will be dominantly clear.  Lows Christmas Eve will drop to the upper 20s. 

Christmas Day will be a beautiful day. Expect a chilly start and highs will get to the mid-50s under sunny skies. Lows will be in the low 30s and cloud cover will increase to overcast overnight.

Tuesday, another front will move through early in the day. Highs will be in the upper 40s to low 50s. Winds will be breezy when the front moves through and taper off to 5 to 10 mph by the afternoon. Skies will remain mostly cloudy overnight. Lows will be in the low to mid-30s. 

Wednesday evening, rain is expected to pick up across the Big Country with on and off chances continuing through Friday morning.
