Player of the Week Roberts chasing brother's records

COMANCHE, Texas - Comanche running back Colton Roberts had a game unlike any other in his life in week eight of the regular season.

"Not on the varsity I haven't. That was the most I've gotten the ball this year," Roberts said. "I didn't even feel like I had that many yards."

The senior only had 275 yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns, to go along with a 35-yard receiving score in the Indians' 31-14 district victory at Merkel.

"He's got unbelievable vision," sixth-year head coach Stephen Hermesmeyer said. "He's really gotten a lot faster from last year to this year. Track in the off-season and living the weight room really helped him. He's just a hard-working kid."

Roberts is working hard to best his older brother Jaden's marks for a single-season and single-game.

Colton Roberts was able to rattle off the exact statistics: 1,726 rushing yards in a single-season for Jaden, while he sits at 1,053 with three regular season games remaining.

"I've got good vision. My brother had it, too, when he was the running back here. I guess it runs in the family," said Colton Roberts. "I learned a lot [from Jaden]. Now, I'm trying to break his records."

Comanche (6-1, 2-0) won district last season for the first time since 2000. They have a chance to put themselves in the driver's seat in a first-place match-up against Clyde on Friday, Oct. 27 in Comanche.
