Cattle truck overturns killing 20 cows, closing highway for 10 hours

Highway 277 South from FM 89 to FM 1235 -- in south Taylor County -- was closed for 10 hours Friday because a cattle truck overturned near what's commonly referred to as "Dead Man's curve."BUFFALO GAP, Texas -


The wreck happened about 7 a.m. The highway reopened at 5 p.m.

Sheriff Ricky Bishop said 20 of the 40 cows were killed. The driver was taken to the hospital.

Traffic was diverted through Buffalo Gap, according to a KTXS viewer.

We're waiting to hear back from the Texas Department of Public Safety about what caused the wreck.

Wednesday morning, a Houston man was killed on Hwy 277 when he hit a patch of ice about 12 miles south of Buffalo Gap and crashed into a delivery truck.
