Train strikes pedestrian in Abilene


ABILENE, Texas - Just after 1 a.m., Abilene police responded to a call that someone was hit by a train along North 1st Street. 

According to police, the conductor of the train made the 911 call at 1:17 a.m. saying there had been a crash with injuries.

When police responded, the pedestrian was initially not found. After searching the nearby area, a male was found sitting under a tree -- in pain. 

He was immediately transported to Hendrick Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries. 

According to police, given the location of the accident, the man is believed to be homeless. 

Union Pacific is investigating this accident.
