18-wheeler violently rolls over off of I-20 in east Abilene
ABILENE, Texas —
A trucker appears to have escaped serious injury after his 18-wheeler violently rolled off of I-20 and on to an access road below it in east Abilene on Monday evening.
Just before 6:45 p.m. on Monday, the Abilene Fire Department was dispatched to a wreck involving an overturned 18-wheeler in the 3100 block of East Overland Trail in east Abilene.
When fire crews arrived at the scene, they found an 18-wheeler lying on its side with a twisted and banged-up trailer and the 18-wheeler's cab resting on its side.
The driver of the 18-wheeler had his arm trapped underneath the toppled cab, which prompted rescue workers to begin an extrication operation to free the driver from the cab.
Emergency crews were eventually able to free the driver from the truck, who was able to stand up under his own power before being transported to Hendrick Medical Center for further evaluation.
According to authorities, the driver of the 18-wheeler took Exit 290 on I-20 too fast and lost control of his rig, causing the cab and trailer to topple off of the interstate.
