Abilene Cyber Crimes Unit arrest student for distributing child pornography
ABILENE, Texas —
The Abilene Police Department's Cyber Crimes Unit arrested a McMurry University student Thursday on child porn charges.
Detectives, assisted by McMurry University staff, executed a search warrant on Casey Jones's dorm room and discovered the 19-year-old student was distributing child pornography.
"McMurry University was notified by the Abilene Police Department that APD would be executing a search warrant on a student’s room in one of the residence halls," said marketing director Robin Daniels. "The University cooperated fully with the APD. The University has placed the arrested student on interim suspension, and this student is no longer on the University campus."
Police say Jones had been distributing the pornography through the social media applications Snapchat, KiK, and Dropbox.
Jones was arrested for possession and distribution of child pornography and is currently at the Taylor County Jail.
His bond was set at $22,500.
