Abilene ISD handbell choir celebrates 40 years with a concert
ABILENE, Texas —
The Abilene ISD handbell choir celebrated a milestone Tuesday night.
The choir is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
They held a special end of the year concert at First Baptist Church.
Over the years the choir has had three directors and three names.
All three directors were at the concert, along with past members of the choir.
It's made up of students from both Abilene and Cooper High Schools, and it plays an important role in the lives of many special education students -- teaching them about the joy of music.
The choir has performed for George H.W. Bush in Washington D.C., at the Texas State Capitol and at a Texas Rangers baseball game.
