An 18-year-old Abilene man was flown to a Lubbock hospital after police say he was shot at a home in northeast Abilene.

According to police, the shooting happened about 3 p.m. at a home in the 300 block of College Drive.

Police say the victim, Louis Barrientes, opened the door and quickly shut it before being shot once in the abdomen by Ethan Caballero, 17.

According to police, Barrientes is expected to survive.

Police say the shooting stems from an early incident in the parking lot of Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant on South 14th Street.

About 2:45 p.m., police received a 911 call from someone who said a Hispanic male in a maroon Chevy pulled up next to him and pointed a revolver at him.

The victim gave a description of the suspect and the license plate. However, police say the license plate was incorrect and they were unable to locate the maroon Chevy.

About 10-minutes later, police received a 911 call about a shooting at 353 College Drive.

According to police, Caballero -- the same suspect from the South 14th Street incident -- drove to College Drive to confront Barrientes about a relationship with his girlfriend.

Police say Caballero left the scene with Alexis Jones, 17, in a maroon Chevy Impala.

The two were located a short time later at restaurant in the 1300 block of N. Judge Ely.

Two handguns were located in the Impala. Police say one of the guns was stolen yesterday during a car burglary in the 1300 block of S. Crockett Street.

Caballero was charged with:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Theft of a Firearm
  • Possession of marijuana

He was also wanted on two warrants for possession of a dangerous drug and possession of marijuana.

Cabballero's bond was set at $126,750.

Jones was charged with possession of marijuana. She was released after posting a $750 bond.

This was the second shooting on Saturday.

Around 9 a.m., a man was shot and killed after police say he broke into an apartment in the 2500 block of S 25th Street.
