Abilene man hit and killed by car had just 'gotten back on his feet,' according to family
ABILENE, Texas —
An Abilene man who was struck and killed by a car on Wednesday along Southwest Drive and Catclaw Drive had just gotten back on his feet, according to his family.
Mike Andrade, 54, of Abilene, had gone to pay a phone bill when he went to go catch a bus and was hit by an SUV while trying to cross the road, said his brother, Sal Andrade.
Andrade had been the primary caregiver for his mother, who passed away a couple of years ago, who he had lived with and had been struggling to cope with losing, according to his family.
Recently, Andrade had started working at Abimar Foods and was described as a “person with a great personality” by his co-workers.
Because of a health condition, Andrade did not drive, and his brothers said that he could not walk fast and must have not been able to dodge the SUV that hit him.

Authorities said that alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
