Abilene man hit while riding bicycle dies from injuries

ABILENE, Texas - Abilene police said the man hit by a car while crossing Grape Street on his bicycle has died from his injuries.

Police identified the man as 55-year-old Augustine Salazar.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the sedan at this time.

A man was taken to the hospital after he was struck by a car while riding his bike in north Abilene Friday afternoon.

Abilene police told a KTXS photographer at the scene the sedan was traveling south in the 1500 block of Grape Street when the bicyclist crossed Grape Street in front of the car around 3:30 p.m.

The driver of the car could not stop in time and the man was hit.

An ambulance arrived and transported the bicyclist to an Abilene hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time, but blood was seen on the ground near the accident.

Police said the bicyclist did not have identification on him, and no identifying details have been released.

The accident is still under investigation, and police said any citations are still pending.
