Abilene, Texas — An Abilene man was indicted Thursday for the 2016 murder of a woman who was found shot in the head.
A Taylor County grand jury indicted Charles Edward Newman, 38, for murder and tampering with evidence.
Kendra Keppler's body was found in an apartment on Whittier Street on May 18. Police say it appears her body had been there for a few days.
A friend of Keppler told police that she last saw her around May 14.
Keppler showed the friend a gun that she bought for protection.
Keppler told the friend that she was going to take Newman to his parole hearing, but she never returned.
According to the indictment, Newman confessed to a longtime friend that he "killer her."
The friend also told investigators that Newman had been back to Keppler's apartment to get items to pawn and that her body was still where he left her.
In the days before Keppler's body was found, Newman was seen driving her car. He also used her debit card.
