ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Police Department has issued a warning about scam phone calls.
According to APD, citizens have been claiming to have received phone calls from the department's Non-Emergency number (325-673-8331).
The scammer has been calling people all over the United States, claiming to have been involved in an accident and needing money or to be a grandchild in jail.
The Abilene Police Department Facebook page posted about the scam phone calls Thursday morning.
APD wants to remind citizens to answer the phone with caution. "The public needs be aware that this is a scam. As a reminder, citizens should not give out any personal information over the phone and should always verify a phone call by talking with other family members," the Facebook post stated.
