Abilene man shot longtime friend, neighbor in head during night of drinking

Roy Lee Jackson, 66, is charged with murder in an overnight shooting on Forest Avenue.

Police say an Abilene man shot and killed his longtime friend and neighbor during a night of drinking.

Roy Lee Jackson, 66, called police at 1:07 a.m. Saturday.

When police arrived at the home in the 700 block of Forrest Avenue, they found the body of Delbert Pimpton, 64, in the living room.

Pimpton had been shot in the head with Jackson's Glock 9 millimeter, according to Chief Stan Standridge.

Standridge said the two men had been drinking at Pimpton's house across the street.

At some point, they went to Jackson';s house where the shooting occurred in the living room.

Police are not sure what led up to the shooting.

Jackson was charged with murder and booked into the Taylor County Jail.

An autopsy was ordered.

Standridge said Jackson does not have an extensive criminal background.

The shooting on Forrest Avenue was the second homicide of the night.

Just after midnight, a man was shot and killed when he answered a knock at the door at an apartment complex in the 5100 block of Fairmont Street.
