Abilene police warn of increase in tool theft during summer

ABILENE, Texas - The Abilene Police Department is urging residents to lock up their power tools and lawn equipment.

"We get a lot of thefts where tools were taken out of the back of trucks and out of the back of trailers," APD evidence officer Joel Harris said.

Harris said the department sees an increase in the theft of tools during the summer months, he called it a crime of opportunity.

"If you can limit those opportunities to criminals, then you might be able to prevent becoming a victim," Harris said.

Harris also told KTXS having your tools engraved with serial numbers can help you locate your property if it does come up missing.
