An Abilene woman's estate donated $9 million to six charities/non-profit organizations.

Frank Cahill, the brother of the late Jean Hays and executor of her will, handed out the checks Tuesday morning at the Community Foundation of Abilene.

Hays moved to Abilene after World War II with her husband, Lt. James L. "Curly" Hays, and fell in love with the city and the friendly people.

She was involved with numerous organizations during her life including Community Foundation, Alliance for Women and Children, Abilene Philharmonic, Cancer Services Network, Las Aficionados-Auxiliary of the Grace Museum, St. Vincent De Paul, and The Center of Contemporary Arts.

Hays died in September.
