Abilenians asked to be on alert for counterfeit money

Police released this example of counterfeit money being circulated in Abilene.

ABILENE, Texas -- Police issued an alert Thursday about counterfeit cash being circulated in Abilene.

“Officers have recently seen counterfeit money being passed at convenience stores, second-hand stores and restaurants,” Abilene police spokesperson Jennifer Galvan said.

“These bills do not feel consistent with genuine currency. The coloring is smudged and appears yellowed.”

Galvan said Abilenians are encouraged to call 911 and garner information and photos of suspects and their vehicles – if possible – and “with caution.”

A 19-year-old Abilene woman was arrested Tuesday for passing counterfeit $50 bills.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Abilene Crime Stoppers at (325) 676-8477.
