Nearly 900 law enforcement officers are in Abilene this week for the Texas Police Games.

The games are an annual event where officers compete in various sporting events, obstacle courses, and shooting competitions.

Officers competed in a motorcycle rodeo Tuesday.

The participants say that events like this give them a chance to improve skills that they use every day on the job.

"This is a motorcycle rodeo in which we build upon the skills that's required for a motor officer to be agile on their motorcycle and to maneuver in small spaces and things of that nature," said Andrew Mason, an Abilene police officer.

The Texas Police Games run through Friday.

The games will be held in South Padre Island next year.
