Abilene police say a refugee from Africa was killed in an overnight shooting.

The victim is 23-year-old Chance Bonni.

According to Chief Stan Standridge, Bonni was shot in the chest with a shotgun around 12:07 a.m. Saturday after answering the door at the Stonegate Apartments just after midnight on Saturday.

Bonni -- who was at the apartment for a party with three other friends -- was pronounced dead at Hendrick Medical Center.

"He was a brother to me and would always have my back," said Fabio Scaief who played soccer with Bonni at Cooper High School.

Standridge said the shooting was related to drugs being sold at the complex and not a random act of violence.

Police are looking for two male suspects. They did not release any details about the suspects other than they were wearing hoodies.

"I do believe we will clear this case by arrest," said Standridge.

Standridge also said people who live at that complex do not have any reason to be worried.

"We don’t believe this is a random act of violence," said Standridge. "We don’t believe their safety is in jeopardy."

It was one of two homicides overnight
