Autopsy report: Newborn Abilene baby stabbed multiple times
ABILENE, Texas - A newborn baby found dead Jan. 18 in an Abilene residence on South 25 th Street was stabbed at least three times over the neck and chest, according to a preliminary autopsy report.
In addition, both of the baby's lungs were collapsed, the report said.
According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office autopsy report released to KTXS Tuesday, 18-year-old Amber Craker's daughter sustained cuts across the carotid artery and the left jugular vein. The report also states there was a "small sharp-force injury on the upper left side of the back" of the newborn.
Craker was arrested Jan. 19. Her boyfriend, 22-year-old Damian Scott Cate, was arrested Jan. 18. Both are facing felony charges of murder and tampering with evidence. Each remain in the Taylor County Jail on $300,000 bonds.
Craker was taken to the hospital for bleeding, and doctors determined she had just given birth. She did not have an infant with her, so hospital officials called the police.
Police say Craker and Cate "caused obvious injuries" to her newborn baby, leading to her death. Police reports say Craker admitted to cleaning up the scene after the baby's death.
"[Craker] then stated she hid the deceased baby in a trash can," the arrest report said.
Multiple studies are still pending, the autopsy said. The final autopsy report will be completed upon completion of those studies and additional investigations.
