The Abilene Zoo is mourning the loss of its white Bengal tiger.

Havar passed away Friday morning. He was approximately 18-20 years old.

At this time, it does not appear Havar’s death was caused by anything other than his advanced age, according to the zoo.

“We are devastated. Our animal care team was with him conducting their early morning routine when he died. He was such an incredible tiger and was loved by us all.” said Zoo Veterinarian Dr. Stephanie Carle.

Havar was rescued from a private individual and donated to the zoo in 2009.

Bengal tigers are listed as Endangered with as few as 4,000 of them left in the wild.
