Multiple people helped pull a Wylie ISD school bus driver and student off a bus before it burst into flames.

The bus collided with an SUV on Buffalo Gap and Forest Hill roads in south Abilene around 3:40 p.m.

Police say the driver of the SUV "came into the lane of the bus."

    The vehicles then collided head-on.

The bus turned over on its side and caught fire.

Superintendent Joey Light says there was one student on the bus at the time of the crash.

The driver and student made it off before the fire started, according to Light.

Police say multiple people helped rescue them.

The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

The bus driver was looked at by medical personnel.

Buffalo Gap Road is shut down at Antilley Road.

KTXS has multiple crews at the scene and will have a live report on KTXS News at Five.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Light initially said there were no students on the bus.
